FORMER Great White vocalist Jack Russell has retired from touring after being diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia.
Russell, 63, also attributed his decision to Multi-System Atrophy, which like LBD is an neural condition. Both conditions can cause tremors and trouble with balance. LBD can also induce hallucinations. Lewy Body Dementia is believed to have contributed to the suicide in 2014.
“To my fans and friends, it is with the heaviest of hearts that I must announce my retirement from the road,” Russell said in a statement.
“After a recent diagnosis of Lewy body dementia (LBD) and multiple system atrophy (MSA) in May 2024, I am unable to perform at the level I desire and at the level you deserve. Words cannot express my gratitude for the many years of memories, love and support. Thank you for letting me live my dreams. You have made my life a wonder.”
Russell recently released his biography, Mista Bone. There was surprise when his current band Jack Russell’s Great White recently played shows without him.
We spoke to Russell earlier this year and he was in good spirits, enquiring about Australian promoters who might like to book his band. See the chat below.
