By PERRY GRAYSON

IN the gimmick-laden rock scene, Gwyn Ashton stands tall as a no-frills, no holds barred blues rocker.

Axeman and vocalist Ashton is the modern equivalent of Rory Gallagher and Johnny Winter. The album starts out with an acoustic slide guitar intro before blazing through heavier electric territory.

“Fortunate Kind” is a tear jerking southern rocker a la Skynyrd’s “Tuesday’s Gone”.

The disc comes complete with a raucous rave up on Willie Dixon’s “I Just Wanna Make Love”. If there is one drawback to Radiogram, it’s that the bass tends to get buried by all the six-stringin’.

The bass aside, it’s full to the brim with fiery fretboard action and tasty tone. A must hear for those who like it raw, gritty and genuine.
