IT’S either Chickenfoot with a new drummer or The Circle with a new guitarist but Sammy Hagar has announced a tour which looks like filling the gap left by there being no tribute show to the late Eddie Van Halen.
Hagar, 76, will tour the United States with Van Halen’s Michael Anthony on bass, Jason Bonham on drums and virtuoso axe-slinger Joe Satriani on guitar. The Best Of All Worlds tour starts on July 13, 2024, in West Palm Beach Florida.
Canadian icons Loverboy support.
The news follows multiple apparently failed attempts to produce a live even in honour of EVH, who died on October 6 202o. Hagar tells Howard Stern (video below) there is an open invitation for Alex Van Halen and David Lee Roth to get involved in the new tour.
“It’s crazy to think that it’ll be 20 years since Mikey and I played these songs with Van Halen on the 04’ Best of Both Worlds Tour,” Hagar said in a statement.
“With Joe on board, we can take a deeper dive into those years. We’re going to touch on some hits from my entire career, but seeing fans old and new really embrace the new collection set off something in Mikey and I.
“We were at my Birthday Bash in Cabo for my 76th and looked at each other and high-fived, like, ‘Let’s do it.’ We pulled out a couple of them, and it was an instant lovefest with the fans from our first riffs. The music we created is going to outlive us all. They deserve to be heard, so it’s time we go out and serve the fans that music, while we still can.”
The best of all worlds perhaps – but it sounds there’s going to be a big focus on the world of Van Halen.
