A 28-year-old from Doncaster and a group of musicians from Baltimore in their twenties and thirties have taken out key rock and metal awards at the Grammys.

Turnstile, a five-piece from Maryland, took out best metal performance for their song “Birds” and and best rock album for Never Enough while Yungblud’s landmark performance of “Changes” at Black Sabbath’s Back To The Beginning concert last July was named best rock performance.

In the band with Yungblud that day was Anthrax bassist Frank Bello, Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, Sleep Token’s II on drums and Ozzy’s Adam Wakeman on keys.

“You do not expect to be up here and then you fucking are, so it’s wild,” Yungblud told the audience in Los Angeles.

“To grow up loving an idol who helps figure out your identity, not only as a musician but as a man, is something I’m truly grateful for. But then to form a relationship with them and honour them at their final show…we’re finding it so strange to comprehend.”

Turnstile frontman Brendan Yates, meanwhile, said on behalf of the band: “The community we found through punk and hardcore music has given us a safe place to swing in the dark and land somewhere beautiful. So to our family, our friends, our partners, our peers, and to Baltimore, thank you. We love you.”
