EDDIE Van Halen’s son Wolfgang says he knows little about the proposed new album his uncle Alex is working on, purportedly including material from both the young multi-instrumentalist and his dad.
Drummer Alex Van Halen has allowed more detail to reach the public arena in recent weeks about an album he is working on with Toto guitarist Steve Lukather which he says utilises archival material from the family’s 5150 studios.
Wolfgang, 34, was interviewed on Sirius XM on Tuesday night regarding his band Mammoth and was asked if he could shed any light on the issue.
“I haven’t played anything yet,” he said. “So I’m not sure what Al is talking about in that respect. They could be older ideas that maybe we worked on, you know, 15 years ago or something.
“Because there was a lot of years where Al and dad an I were just jamming in the studio, for three years or something.”
Wolfgang was otherwise evasive, saying: “I really do think it’s Al’s thing to talk about. I’m just here in a position of helping him with whatever he needs. If he needs (me to play) on something, I’m there. If he needs something else, I’m there. Whatever he needs.
“It’s his thing to spearhead and I’m in a support position.”
Asked by host Eddie Trunk on the Faction Talk station if he therefore didn’t know anything about the project, Wolfgang offered a “mm-mm” response and that was it.
