DAVID Coverdale has retired.
The 74-year-old posted a video overnight Thursday Australian time confirming that he would not record or perform again afer Whitesnake cut short a 2022 tour due to the iconic singer’s health.
“The last few years it’s been really evident to me that it’s time for me to hang up my rock’n’roll platform shoes and my skin tight jeans,” Coverdale said in a video posted on the band’s channels.
“It’s time for me to call it a day. I thank everyone who’s supported and assisted me on this incredible journey: all the musicians, the crew, the fans, the family. It’s been amazing but it really is time for me to just enjoy my retirement.”
Coverdale’s salute of “fare thee well” was followed by a video montage depicting Whitesnake’s 47-year history – to the strains of a remixed version of the song of the same name.
As well as his work with Whitesnake, which was essentially his band, Coverdale also colluded with Jimmy Page for an album in 1993 and sang for Deep Purple on 1974’s Burn and Stormbringer albums, as well as 1975’s Come Taste the Band.
A version of Whitesnake without Coverdale played in Serbia in August. Its future is at this stage unknown.
