SINGER Spike Gray says he has sent a cease-and-desist letter to his former Quireboys band-mates, ordering them to stop using the name.

The revelation was contained in a media release in which the 54-year-old said he had re-united with another original member of the London band, Guy Bailey, and would be releasing new material under the Quireboys name.

As we reported, Guy Griffin, Keith Weir and Paul Guerin effectively sacked Gray in March.

Now a full-scale battle has broken out over the use of the name “Quireboys”.

“The three former band members that split with me were each written to three weeks ago, setting out that they did not create the intellectual property in the Quireboys name, their Limited Company is not called The Quireboys, they should not present themselves as the Quireboys,” Gray wrote.

“I have received no reply but have clearly laid out the position.”

Gray and Bailey – founding members of the band – have been writing new material in recent weeks, Spike said.

In a 2014 interview, Bailey said of the Quireboys: “I still go and see them but I’ve moved on from it. “I enjoy seeing them and I get up with them at times at shows and we have a good night.”
