KELLY HANSEN is the new singer in The Dead Daisies.
The former Foreigner and Hurricane frontman, 65, was unveiled in somewhat momentous fashion when the Aussie-based supergroup released a single, “Lift Me Up”, was released with him on vox. It was accompanies by a music video.
The current lineup of The Dead Daisies features Hansen on lead vocals alongside guitarists Doug Aldrich, formerly of Whitesnake and Dio, and founding member David Lowy. The rhythm section is completed by drummer Tommy Clufetos, known for his work with Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne and bassist Jimi Crutchley of The Quireboys.
Hansen left Foreigner after two decades as frontman, with his final performance taking place on October 12, 2025. Commenting on the move, he said in a media release: “When I left Foreigner after 20 great years, I told everybody I wasn’t ‘retiring’ – just moving on to other things. This project gives me the opportunity to stretch out with some new melodies, a new vibe and fresh energy. We’re gonna rock it!”
Aldrich, who previously played with Hansen in Hurricane between 1989 and 1991, described the new track thus: “‘Lift Me Up’ started off as a dead simple guitar riff and heavy groove. As the song progressed, the melody just grew from there. It’s very melodic and the lyric reflects positively and a vibe to lift us up in these crazy times.”
He added: “We’re working on more cool music for the album right now and I’m excited about where it’s heading. It’s also gonna be amazing to be onstage with Kelly again after all these years! His vocal range is exceptional and he’s a badass frontman. Can’t wait to get out there and see you all in 2027!!”
Lowy expressed enthusiasm for the new direction. “We’re fired up about the direction The Daisies is taking. Kelly has slotted in and it just feels right. We’ve got a killer record taking shape and looking forward to a big year of touring ahead. Bring on 2027!”
Formed in Sydney in 2012, The Dead Daisies have long operated as a revolving collective of experienced rock musicians. Previous vocalists have included Jon Stevens, John Corabi and Glenn Hughes, with Corabi departing the group in July 2026.
The band is currently in the studio developing further material for a forthcoming album, of which “Lift Me Up” serves as the first preview.
European and UK dates for March 2027 have already been announced, with special guests The Quireboys and The Gems supporting on the run, while United States shows are expected to follow.
Tickets for the initial European leg are on sale now, as the group prepares for what it describes as an extensive global touring cycle next year.
