ANOTHER legendary venue bites the dust.
Moshpit, a revered hole in the wall on King Street, Erskineville, that has hosted many a legendary evening out, will close its doors on November 28.
“It is with truly heavy hearts that we share some news with you all: MoshPit Bar will be permanently,” representatives of the venue wrote on social media.
“For every person who has walked through our doors over the last nine-plus years, this venue has always been about far more than just a bar. It has been a place where friendships were made, unforgettable gigs were played, new bands found their first audience and countless memories were created.
“We also want to be completely honest about why we have reached this point. This decision has not been made because we’ve lost our love for MoshPit or because we wanted to move on. Quite the opposite.
“The simple reality is that ever-increasing operating costs, combined with declining revenues, have made it financially impossible for us to continue. We have explored every avenue available to keep MoshPit alive. We’ve looked at every option and exhausted every possibility to avoid this outcome. Sadly, despite our best efforts, the numbers no longer add up.
“Until the day we close, we want to celebrate everything MoshPit has been. We’d love nothing more than to spend these final months surrounded by the people who made this place so special. Come and have a drink, catch a show, share your stories, and help us give MoshPit the farewell it deserves.”
On setlist.fm, the earliest listing for Moshpit is Operation Ibis on December 2, 2017. Bands to have played there since include The Dubrovniks, Chris Masuak, Nunchukka Superfly, Neptune Power Federation and Sarah McLeod.
In 2019 there was an improptu reunion of Oz Rock heroes DoomFoxx when singer Stu McKie joined guitarist Dave Thomas’ band on stage (see below).
