Roth cancels many tour dates, prompting ‘olive branch’ from Hagar

DAVID Lee Roth has cancelled almost all his remaining solo tour dates, prompting an apparent message of sympathy from fellow former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar.

The current North American trek of the 71-year-old Roth has been beset by bad publicity associated with unflattering YouTube videos. Now shows in Dillon, Colorado; Clear Lake, Iowa; Louisville, Kentucky and East Moline, Illinois have been canned.

A shows in Sturgis, South Dakota on August 7 remains and Tickmaster is still selling for La Vista Nevada, Lincoln California, Menlo Park California and Laughlin Nevada.

Perhaps in sympathy – and perhaps sensing a publicity opportunity, 78-year-old Hagar almost immediately issued a video, in which he said: “Hey Dave, Sammy here. I just got a call from Michael Anthony as I’m sitting down having my favourite cocktail, and I don’t have to tell you what this is, about your tour getting canceled.

“And I wanna say from the bottom of my heart, I’m sorry. I hope you’re well. I hope there’s not a physical problem.”

“Honestly, Mike and I love the fact that you’ve been out there doing it, supporting the greatest band in the world that we were both part of. And, yeah, I’m really sorry. That’s fucked up. Supporting what we did in this band to keep this music alive.

“You and I, Mikey, Al, Ed, cannot be replaced.”

Perhaps tellingly in terms of motivation, Hagar invited Roth to join his band on stage during an upcoming Las Vegas residency, or act as MC.

“So, when you’re ready to carry on, you go, brother. Mike and I support you.

“Come to Vegas for the residency in September. Come on, join us. Sing a couple songs, MC the damn show. Come out and just do what the fuck you do, which is pretty damn entertaining.”

Roth seemingly responded to the drama by releasing an instagram video of him perfoming the limbo with the caption “Roth reaches new low”.
