AN Australian visit by US doom legends Pentagram has been thrown into doubt, with a statement from the promoter today that the tour has been put on hiatus.

In a statement this afternoon, Hardline wrote: “Due to the current allegations surrounding the Pentagram Australian/New Zealand tour – Hardline Media have decided to put this tour on hiatus. To be clear, no visas have been granted, as has been stated previously by other media. No venues or any staff hitherto are party to these allegations.”

Originally formed in Virginia in 1971 by singer Bobby Leibling, Pentagram have long been hailed and revered as one of the forefathers of doom metal but their career has been marked by the singer’s turbulent history.

While the promoter’s statement makes no clear statement on what the allegations surrounding the tour are, following decades of drug use and dozens of arrests, Liebling was convicted of elder abuse against his octagenarian mother in 2017 and imprisoned for 18 months, making it likely he is unable to enter the country.

More information about the tour will be released as it comes to hand.
