YOUTUBE has banned the latest music video by California thrashers Exodus, deeming it too violent.
The song “3111” is the first single off the upcoming 13th Exodus album and it deals with the violent narcotics trade in North America and associated killings.
But when the band tried to post it last week for its premiere, it was rejected by the Google video platform, which threatened the band with channel deletion.
The band said of the song: “We decided to go hard with the leadoff single ‘3111’. The song is about the narco killings in Juarez, and 3111 is the estimated number of murders for 2010 alone.”
Exodus will re-edit the video with a version which meets YouTube’s “community standards” to be produced.
Interestingly, a media release about the situation invited journalists to click on a link where guitarist Gary Holt was to make a statement. When the link was clicked, that video had also been removed.
