MULTIPLE reports suggest Metallica will embark on a residency at Las Vegas’ A$3.4 billion Sphere next year,
The Bay Area thrashers have long been linked the venue, where video is projected on both the internal and external walls and sound emanates from hidden speakers, following appearances there by bands such as U2, The Eagles and Phish.
Metallica, who have changed the way video screens are used at stadium concerts and whose actual presence sometimes seems secondary to the images on those screens, are natural successors.
No-one is talking about it on the record but according to The Sun, the deal is 90 percent done. The paper quoted a source as saying: “Metallica having a residency at the Sphere is all anyone is talking about on the Strip.
“They have been to see the bosses and met all the tech team to talk through and plan out a show in principle.”
Drummer Lars Ulrich told Sirius XM last year, in the face of speculation about such a residency: “I’m not going to confirm anything, because there’s nothing to confirm.
“But I’m not going to deny it, because we’re all such fans of this venue. All of our managers and our production people have been there and looked at it. It’s something that we’re considering, [but] nothing is etched in stone or green-lit. It’s something that we’re looking at at some point when the 2026 tour is done.”
