THE music industry is abuzz with speculation on who will play bass for AC/DC on their upcoming world tour with Cliff Williams having bowed out.
Sources have told Hot Metal that a leading candidate is long-time Ted Nugent bassist Greg Smith, aged 60. Smith has also worked with Billy Joel, Alice Cooper, Glen Frey, Wendy O’Williams and others.
Smith is a friend of AC/DC singer Brian Johnson and has been photographed with him several times. Williams told podcaster and comedian Dean Delray he would not tour.
According to US DJ Eddie Trunk, the bassist has already been hired and he knows the man’s identity. “I’ve got to work with these people,” he said, by way of explanation for why he was not sharing the information with his audience.
It’s still uncertain which of the upcoming dates drummer Phil Rudd will perform on. Rudd was replaced by American Matt Laug for Powertrip in Indio, California, on October 7.
It was speculated that Rudd could not get a US visa because of his police record. He told New Zealand media he was not finished performing with AC/DC.
