AS Texas rock legends ZZ Top embark on their Elevation tour – which will see them in Australia with George Thorogood and the Destroyers in April and May – the band’s management has announced that drummer Frank Beard will not be performing due to health issues.

Beard, who has been the band’s drummer since 1969, will be replaced on the tour by his long time tech John Douglas while he recovers. Douglas has stood in for Beard previously, when he needed emergency surgery in 2002.
