HAILING from the Blue Mountains, Naugrim play a style of modern metal that grooves and crushes similarly to Lamb Of God but with that flavour that makes so many Aussie bands unique.

Quick to bust from the speakers, “Destroyer” comes out windmilling and thossing riffs around like a fat kid throwing out their hands for a chip packet, leaving the first taste of their groove for follow up “Severed” that has the band drop into a groove that is at once familiar, with an almost lazy Australian half stomp.

Things get interesting in the middle as “Avolition” lulls the listener into a false sense of musical comfort, beginning with a similar laid back groove before Naugrim abruptly knuckle down into death metal territory while maintaining whatever it is that is creating the fire and focus of this EP.

Closing track “From The Ashes” sees them throw everything that has worked so far on the previous tracks into one big molten pile with great success as it ebbs and flows from early groove to death speeds and back to the comfort of the Aussie groove.

I hadn’t heard of these locals blokes before, but I am well impressed with what they have put down here (not that my opinion counts toward much) and if you see them playing in your area get there: support the local scene. Buy the stream, buy the physical and a shirt! The world needs more Australian metal and these guys are another band bringing it to us lucky punters.
