M3 AT THE quaint Mereweather Post Pavilion at Columbia just outside Baltimore is the leading hair metal festival in North America – by default, perhaps the world.
But in recent years the bill has got a little tired, not helped by old favourites like local Maryland heroes Kix hanging up their spandex pants. When the announcement of a bill for this May still had not been made into the new year, the fear was that the organisers had simply run out of ideas.
How wrong could ‘fears’ be?
When the line-up was finally made public yesterday, there was not one but two news-making inclusions: iconic Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth and legendary Ratt guitarist Warren DeMartini had been tempted out of retirement.
Roth will headline the Sunday night – the makeup of his band will no doubt be another big story in the rock world – and DeMartini will team with his former foil in Ratt, singer Stephen Pearcy, to perform that band’s hits.
Roth, 70, and DiMartini, 61, were each said to have given live performances away to focus on their dotages.
Others performing at the three-day festival include Sebastian Bach, Accept, Winger, Slaughter, Steven Adler, Ace Frehley, Warrant, Great White, Lita Ford, Vixen and Spread Eagle.
Tickets go on sale Friday US time.
