TASMANIA’S ship seems to be finally coming in.
Often overlooked by touring bands and national sporting competitions, the state that was long a metaphor for female pubic hair – until that disappeared just like much local fauna – is about to have its day in the sun.
A new stadium is being approved which will give the state its long-desired AFL franchise, the Tasmanian Jewels will soon be on the Women’s NBL court and now the Foo Fighters are heading RIGHT down under for a one-off show – in Launceston, of all places.
On January 24, Grohl – still easing himself back into public life after admitting in September 2024 to fathering a child outside his marriage – will lead his band to UTAS Stadium. It’s the only show of the ‘tour’ – so far.
Frontier Touring are the promoters.
In March 2022, the Foos similarly played a ‘one-off’ show in Geelong and then announced a full Australian tour. Industry observers expect it to play out this way again.
