AS THE inventors of biker rock, Rose Tattoo wouldn’t be high on the list of bands it would be a good idea to steal from.

Nevertheless, Mick Arnold’s slide – the small tube-like device he wears to play slide guitar – went missing during a gig at Sydney’s Miranda Hotel last Friday night. Rather than put the butcher and fast eddy on the case, singer Angry Anderson did his best Even Tempered Anderson on Facebook.

“Hey brothers and sisters, here’s a call out to all that were at last weekend’s gigs,” Angry, 78, wrote. “Last Friday night at Miranda Hotel an enthusiastic fan swooped on Mick’s beloved old slide which he dropped as he left as he left the stage.

“We would very much like to get it back as it has sentimental value for him. Also it’s special in that it was custom made to fit his ‘fat sausage fingers’ – his words not mine. He’s more than happy to swap it for one of his others.

“We appreciate that whoever has it took it for a souvenir and we do appreciate that as very flattering, to just want something as a souvenir. Anyway hopefully we can get it back, I’ll leave ya’s with it, Ango.”

Then came the midweek update

“Thanks so much to everyone who reached out! The slide has been found and is now on its way home. Huge gratitude to the legend who kept it safe along the way.”

We don’t know if Arnold had to go through the offer of a swap but reader Rachel Baxter corrected an earlier version of this story (apologies for the misunderstanding) when she wrote: “No-one took a guitar.

“A slide (small tube worn on a finger) was handed out to a punter by the venue staff as a souvenir not realising what it was. It was custom-made so it has been very kindly returned.”
