IN its first seven hours on Youtube, the video for Metallica’s new single “Lux Æterna” had attracted 1.4 million views.
No doubt the album the Bay Area titans announced at the same time as releasing it, 72 seasons, will attract similar mass enthusiasm – although without the physical sales of yore.
And then there’s the simultaneous tour announcement: a tour stretching from April next year to September 2024.
While we don’t know how innovative the album will be – the single is a ball of combustible intent driven by quickfire percussion but hardly avant guarde – the tour IS daring.
In each city the band will play two completely different sets.
