TRIBUTES have poured in from across the rock world for former Whitesnake guitarist Bernie Marsden.

Marsden, who was a member of Whitesnake between 1978 and 1982, wrote or co-wrote some of their biggest hits including “Here I Go Again”.

Also a member of UFO in the 1970s, he died surrounded by family at age 72 late last week. A cause of death has not been announced.

“I’ve just woken up to the awful news that my old friend and former Snake Bernie Marsden has passed,” Whitesnake vocalist David Coverdal wrote on Twitter.

“My sincere thoughts and prayers to his beloved family, friends and fans. A genuinely funny, gifted man, whom I was honored to know and share a stage with.”

Motorhead’s Phil Campbell wrote: “What a lovely man he was and his contribution to rock music was immense.”

“Love and miss you Bernie – a beautiful soul,” said the ‘voice of rock’, Glenn Hughes.

Singer Jeff Scott Soto said on Instagram: “RIP to one of the original and important members of Whitesnake, Bernie Marsden…what a legacy of music left behind!”

Francis Dunnery of the original Alice Cooper bands said he had recieved CDs from Marsden’s management on the same morning he learned of his death and had been planning to tour with him.
