TENACIOUS D’s Sydney show this week may be their last ever.
One half of the comedy rock duo, Jack Black, has responded to the uproar over partner Kyle Gass’s Donald Trump comment on stage by pulling the pin on Tenacious D’s entire world tour.
Asked by partner Black what he would wish for on his birthday, Gass replied during a show on Sunday: “Don’t miss Trump next time”.
This led to senator Ralph Babet calling for Tenacious D to be deported (see below) and the story being covered all over the world. Frontier Touring have refused to comment on the reason for the gig being postponed.
Now Black has stated: “I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form.
“After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”
Gass was contrite, saying: “The line I improvised Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake. I don’t condone violence in any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement.”
Tenacious D originally has postponed their Newcastle show. further Australian shows had been scheduled in Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide. Now these and scheduled US shows are off.
