REEF bassist Jack Bessant has suffered a “serious head injury” and remains in hospital, forcing the band to postpone a string of shows next week.
The surf rock giants posted a black and white photo of the hirsute 52-year-old raising a pint as they broke the news to fans on Tuesday via social media.
“We are saddened to announce that our bass player Jack Bessant has suffered a serious head injury due to an accident early this week,” the post read.
“We will sadly no longer be able to perform this weekends shows in Plymouth , Bournemouth and Wolverhampton which we will obviously look to reschedule as soon as possible.
“Tickets for these shows will remain valid for the rescheduled dates.
“We are sorry for any inconvenience caused and are hoping that we will still be able to play the rest of the shows on this UK tour as planned.
“Jack remains in hospital at this difficult time and it goes without saying that all our thoughts are with him and his Family as we wish him a speedy recovery.”
Bessant and singer Gary Stringer are the core members of Reef, best known for their 1996 hit “Place Your Hands”
No information on the nature of the accident or extent of Bessant’s injuries were immediately available.
