THE former guitarist of Sydney groove metal band Mortality has died.

The recently reactivated band announced the passing of Craig Figl on their socials on July 23. No further details were revealed about his passing. Craig Figl joined Mortality in 1994 and appeared on the band’s one and only album, Structure.

Mainstays of Sydney’s underground metal scene in the mid-nineties, Mortality reformed earlier this year around original members, bassist Luke Ford and singer Darren Maloney, along with former Daysend guitarists Aaron Bilbija and Jason Turnbull and ex-Bane of Isildur drummer Dave Pietersz. Their return show at Sydney’s Darling Nikki’s on August 3 will now also be a tribute show to their bandmate.

It is with great, great sadness that today we learned about the passing of our former guitarist Craig Figl.
