LONG TIME Metal Church drummer Kirk Arrington has died at the age of 61.

In the same week his former band releases their latest album, Congregation of Annihilation, comes the sad news that Arrington had passed away due to the effects of diabetes on May 21. His death follows that of vocalist Mike Howe, to suicide, in 2021.

Arrington joined the band in 1981 shortly after founding member Kurdt Vanderhoof re-established the group in Aberdeen, Washington. While originally flirting with thrash metal on 1984’s self-titled debut, Metal Church moved away from the style to help establish a North American power metal scene. Arrington continued with the band until 2006, through their three-year hiatus in the mid-90s.
