ON just the first day of box office sales for this year’s Dark Mofo festival in Hobart, 38,000 tickets have been sold with more than 12,000 in line when sales opened on April 5.

Hobart’s two-week mid-winter festival of dark and alternative culture has already seen eight shows completely sold out including Laterne by Berlin Atonal, Thundercat, Night Mass on June 17 and three of Max Richter’s SLEEP and VISION events.

Beginning on June 8, featured music acts for the first week of Dark Mofo include Black Flag, Sleaford Mods, Witch featuring J Mascis, Ethel Cain, Drab Majesty and Bitumen, and Deafheaven. Week Two features Dødheimsgard headlining Hymns to the Dead alongside Uada, Zuriaake and Haunter, plus shows by King Woman, Drowning Horse, Extortion and more with plenty of art, installations, feasting and the mid-winter nudie swim.
