IN ONE of the most bizarre public declarations in the history of rock music, Journey singer Arnel Pineda has offered to quit if one million people ask him to.

The latest chapter in Journey’s increasing train wreck of a late-career saga began when Pineda suffered vocal issues performing at Rock In Rio at the weekend. Pineda replaced classic Journey singer Steve Perry at the end of the 20th century and it’s fair to say some fans never accepted him.

The 57-year-old Filipino on Monday seemed at the end of his tether.

“It’s really amazing how 1000 right things you have done will be forgotten just cause of THIS .. and of all … (places)… it’s in Rock In Rio,” Pineda wrote, with corrections by Hot Metal for grammar, spelling and syntax.

“Mentally and emotionally, I’ve suffered already and I’m still suffering. But I’ll be OK.

“So here’s the deal here now. I am offering you a chance now (especially those who’s hated me and never liked me from the very beginning) to simply text GO or STAY right here … and if GO reaches one million, I’m stepping out for good.

“Are you game folks? Let’s start…”

Pineda did not leave a phone number to text, apparently undertaking to count hundreds of thousands of “votes” on his Facebook profile.

In recent months Journey principals Neal Schon and Jonathan Caine have renewed legal hostilities over a number of long standing financial and idealogical differences. An extensive UK tour was cancelled due to poor ticket sales.
