GUITARIST Jeff Schroeder has announced his departure from The Smashing Pumpkins.

In a joint statement with the rest of the band, Schroeder wrote that he leaves out of a need to “explore a slightly different path”.

Schroeder joined the Pumpkins in 2007 as replacement for James Iha during the Zeitgeist tour but afterwards became an integral part of the group, writing  and recording on all subsequent Pumpkins’ albums. When Iha rejoined the band, Schroeder’s presence gave them a triple guitar attack.
