IT’S hard to surprise people following the rock news cycle in 2024 – but there was a yarn six days away that had plenty of what’s know in the industry as ‘cut-through’.
In fact, there was was actual cutting involved.
On Metallica’s Instagram account, singer James Hetfield told one million-plus followers that he had a new ‘Ace Of Spades’ tattoo on the middle finger of his right hand.
But it wasn’t just another tattoo for a man who’s got plenty.
“Black ink mixed with a pinch of his cremation ashes that were so graciously given to me,” Hetfield explained. “So now, he is still able to fly the bird at the world.”
Lemmy’s ashes were distributed to friends following his death in 2015 in bullets.
Smart Cremation says placing cremated remains in a tattoo is “very safe. The cremated ashes were burned at temperatures over 1,750 degrees Fahrenheit. This virtually eliminates the chance of infection, though the exact sterility of cremated ashes have not been extensively studied.”
