CANADIAN rockers Helix have confirmed that their long-time drummer Greg ‘Fritz’ Hinz has died.

Hinz, who died aged 68, was diagnosed almost a year ago with cancer, but had asked to keep all details of his illness secret, according Helix vocalist Brian Vollmer in an article on Ultimate Classic Rock.

Vollmer paid tribute to the drummer’s toughness, recalling Hinz’ fall from a ladder six years ago that left him in an induced coma.

Greg Hinz joined Helix in 1982 and appeared on their best-known track, “Heavy Metal Love”, staying with the band for the next 14 years. He rejoined them in 2009.
