Live review: Glam Fest at The Pavilion, Melbourne, Friday, February 16 2024
By SAMANTHA GRAY
WHAT an incredible day from start to finish!
The set up at Melbourne Pavilion was fantastic: Two stages in one large venue so when one band finished the next kicked off straight away. We were blessed with about 10.5 hours of pure glam metal heaven.
The Aussie bands kicked things off and had everybody up on their feet rocking out the minute the doors opened, setting a super impressive lead for the OS acts to follow. I was watching the upstairs green room and the international acts were taking in the bands before them performing and seemed very impressed with what they saw and heard. Rightly so; everyone was phenomenal.
One of only two female performers, Cassidy Paris got things started. From there on in it was one amazing band after the other. She also got up and did a special performance with Janet Gardner (original singer of Vixen). Yeah the girls! It was great to see women represented in rock.
My fave Aussie acts were Wicked Smile, Cassidy Paris and Sisters Doll, who all have been overseas last year doing amazing things! So check out their socials.
In the late afternoon the international acts came on and the venue started to fill up a bit more as people had finished work etcetera. By then the Aussies had well and truly warmed up the stages and hyped the crowd up.
By this stage I was completely glued to the stages and didn’t want to even miss a song from anyone! All these bands I hadn’t seen before and always wanted to hear. My personal favourites: H.E.A.T., Janet Gardner, Lynch Mob and – finally after 30 years of waiting to see them, SLAUGHTER! A dream held since I was a teenager, finally coming true. And boy did they sound as amazing as they did back then. Sooo good! And Dana still a machine on the bass at 66!
I Loved the interaction Janet had with the audience as well she was so engaging and fun to watch.
Everyone had so much love for the talented Mr George Lynch. It was brilliant watching him perform live and seeing the love and recognition he deserves. I had just as much enjoyment watching how loved and admired he is by so many punters and them getting to see him perform again on his last tour.
It was fantastic to be surrounded by so many friends and like minded-people and from the smiles on everyone’s faces and from seeing everyone’s socials today, everyone LOVED IT.
So well done Danny and team at Silverback touring. You can’t wipe the smile off my face today!
