RUNAWAYS member Cherie Currie has used a picture of herself dressed up as David Bowie in the 1970s to speak out against gender reassignment for minors.

Addressing one the hottest topics of society today, 64-year-old Currie says wanting to be a male was just a phase she went through when she was younger and should be treated that way today.

“Misgender this!” Currie wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“A few years before this pic I was so into Bowie I wanted to BE HIM. Dressed like him, swung like him.

“I was CONFUSED about my ‘gender’. It was a PHASE.

“Today, it would be male hormones, cut off my breasts, destroy my life. Love them enough to WAIT. Please.”

At the time of writing, the post had been retweeted 2,300 times. One reader commented that her former bandmate, Joan Jett who is gay, would take issue with the comment.

“Joan does not support children transitioning. Sorry to break it to you,” Currie commented.

Currie was the lead singer of the Runaways, a pioneering all-girl rock band which also included future solo stars Jett and Lita Ford. She is a recording artist and actress.
