IRON Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson says he’s “passed out a couple of times” trying to play his didgeridoo and will attend while in Australia a ceremony that is usually closed to non-Indigenous people.

Dickinson made the revelation in the new edition of Classic Rock magazine, which reported a friend identified only as a psychologist called Kevin had negotiated for them to go to a didgeridoo-centred ceremony when the most celebrated of metal bands is Down Under in September.

“I’ve passed out a few times trying to do the circular breathing,” Dickinson, 65, tells the magazine in reference to an instrument he owns.T

“I get as far as semi-circular breathing and then it’s all over.

“I’m looking forward to experiencing more of the culture (at the ceremony).”

The didgeridoo, developed at least 1000 years ago by the people of north Arnhem Land, is now played around the world.
