MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST grind technician Blake Harrison has died aged 48.

The musician best known for his contributions to grind band Pig Destroyer and his noise project Hatebeak – featuring a parrot as vocalist – was also a columnist for Decibel magazine. News of his passing was first made public on 10 March.

Friends and contemporaries paid tribute to Harrison: “It’s with heavy hearts we have to say goodbye to our friend Blake Harrison today. He was a fixture in the scene when we were cutting our teeth as a young band in Baltimore,” wrote Maryland extremists Noisem.

Reptilian Records’ Christoper Donovan posted: “It is with great sadness that I say goodbye to one of my favourites, Blake Harrison, a true friend and creative comedic genius. Blake was always proud of how many times he appeared on Reptilian releases, having been a member of Daybreak, Triac and the brains behind Hatebeak, before touring many countries in Pig Destroyer”.

Harrison’s cause of death has been revealed to be heart failure.
