By DAN SOUTHALL
WHEN Project Regeneration Vol 1 was released, I praised it as being a great album despite its slightly morbid origins, as well as questioning if or how Static-X could manage to top it if it really was scraping the bottom of the barrel of Wayne Static’s vocal recordings.
Thankfully it wasn’t the last of it. And, if anything, the rest of the band, as well as new/stand in/live vocalist Xero, have brought even more fire to the evil disco. From the very beginning, “Stay Alive” stomps its way through in the fashion to which fans old and new have become accustomed.
It doesn’t stop through “Zombie”, “Jic Boy”, or any of the tracks that follow. That is, until the middle of the album where the music takes a slightly darker and heavier tone. This difference reaches its peak with “Tone” as it darkly ebbs and flows, a stand out track on an album of stand out material. The other big one being “Disco Otsego” as it calls back elements both musical and lyrical from their biggest standout hits.
If you were ever a fan of Static X this album is as much a greatest hits as it is a tribute its lost icon, vocalist Wayne Static. Retro is in now kids, so grab your baggiest pair of jeans, slap a silly hairstyle on and get amongst it.
