LITA’S last album dripped with feel rather than technique or inspiration but I rather liked it. I thought she had some talent anyway.
I see now that I was wrong. This super-hyped 12-track set has it all: sloppy arrangements, boring solos, dumb lyrics, stupid effects, fillers, fillers, more fillers – and not a gem
Yeah, it’s full of all those fancy trimmings, striking stereo separation, muffled voices, UFO sounds, alarm bells, everything producer Mike Chapman could think of to disguise how useless Lita’s material is.
Well, not totally useless. I can’t help but tap my feet to first-up (and probably last-up!) single “Hungry”, although I know Lita’s pet horse could have written it. And forgive me, but Lita’s bone-headed (oops, sorry!) “Big Gun” reminds me enough of Poison’s “Look But Don’t Touch” to be a rather enjoyable bit of pop.
Likewise, “Aces And Eights” recaptures the spirit of “Blueberry”.
But never are Lita’s shortcomings more evident than during her cover of Alice Cooper’s “Only Women Bleed” classic, tragically mutilated by someone who will be long forgotten when the original is still being played on the radio.
No, Lita’s stilettos are buried knee-deep in formularised shit and it don’t look like she’s gonna get out.
