CLIFFORD Hoad, drummer with iconic Aussie rockers Kings Of The Sun, suffered a cardiac arrest in May this year and for several days his life hung by a thread.
But the Gold Coast resident recovered, was released from hospital and recently celebrated his 66th birthday at home. Along the way, photographs released on social media suggested a reconciliation with his brother, KOTS singer Jeff Hoad.
And at Christmas, he surprised fans by releasing a new song – “Skul” – and announced 17 more were ready to be released in some form. He asked supporters to give him suggestions on how they should be made public, either in the form of an album or individual releases.
The low-slung rock’n’roll ditty extols the virtue of a beverage consumed quickly.
And the decision to release the music under his own name, rather than as Kings Of The Sun – a moniker both brothers had previously been using – may suggest an open door to future collaboration between the siblings.
The video for “Skul” utilises footage from the 2020 Danish film Druk.
